About the role
A premier boutique law firm known for its venture capital and private equity capabilities is seeking a senior bankruptcy attorney to lead and develop its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. The appointed individual will act as department head, handling both in-court bankruptcy matters and out-of-court restructurings, advising investment funds on troubled portfolio companies (with an emphasis on debt-side restructuring and workouts), and providing direction to a junior associate. The remit involves contributing 300–400 hours annually to firm-originated bankruptcy matters alongside servicing and expanding their own portable practice.
What we are looking for
• 10–25 years (ideally 15+ years) of experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, and debtor/creditor matters • Standalone portable book of business generating $1m–$1.5m in annual collections • Extensive expertise across both in-court proceedings and out-of-court workouts/restructurings • Prior major law firm experience preferred, combined with suitability for a high-calibre boutique setting • Proven capability to lead and scale a practice area as department head
Compensation
$250,000 – $300,000 base salary

Benefits
Collection sharing: once collections exceed ~$500k, receiving ~30%+ of own collections. Potential total compensation of $650k–$700k+ with a $1m–$1.5m book. Clear path to equity partnership after one full calendar year, with potential to realise up to 50% of annual collections.
