Criminal Inadmissibility Practice Lead Lawyer

Toronto, ON, Canada (remote considered for the right candidate anywhere in Canada).

About the role

This role involves leading and scaling a fast-growing practice area at a pioneering AI-native Canadian immigration law firm. The successful candidate will combine legal expertise with technology and operational leadership, with a clear path toward General Manager responsibility. Responsibilities include leading the Criminal Inadmissibility department and managing a team of approximately three case managers, including setting expectations, coaching, and driving performance. The role holder will own operational metrics via an internal Command Center, running weekly reviews, and partnering with internal technology teams to prototype and build AI-powered tools for efficiency and scalability. Providing senior legal oversight on complex criminal inadmissibility matters (TRPs, Criminal Rehabilitation applications, admissibility issues) and driving the practice from operational stabilisation to growth, expanding capacity, improving client experience, and increasing profitability are also key aspects of the role.

Immigration law experience, ideally with some exposure to criminal inadmissibility cases (TRPs, Criminal Rehabilitation, etc.). An AI-native mindset, actively using tools like Claude/ChatGPT and enthusiastic about applying AI to legal workflows (bonus: ability to vibe-code prototypes). Operationally and commercially minded, comfortable with metrics, dashboards, and understanding the financial aspects of a legal practice. 3-9 years of experience in Canadian immigration law, particularly with criminal inadmissibility, combined with people management or supervisory experience.
